This used to be among my prayers- a portion of land not so very large, which contain a garden,

and near the homestead a spring of ever-flowing water and a little forest to complete it.

Hillandale Garden is situated 1150m above sea level at Yetholme half way between Lithgow and Bathurst in the beautiful Central Tablelands.

The garden is six acres comprising of a woodland of mature Oaks, Rhododendrons, Conifers, Camelias and many more interesting shrubs, nestled in a small peaceful valley, with a fern lined creek running through the middle.

One side of the garden is bordered by an 80m long English Style Herbaceous Perennial Bed, with Lupins, Delphiniums, Dahlias, Salvia ornamental grasses and much more.

There is a small nursery attached to the garden specialising in cool climate perennials and grasses. All Plants are grown and propagated on site. The perennial border displaying all plants for sale in the nursery.

The Details

More

Charlie Waters first settled “Hillandale”, a 70 acre portion, in 1847. He was a timber cutter by trade and built a very basic cottage on the eastern hillside below the garden where there is a permanent spring. These days a mulberry tree, Daffodils and iris remain to mark the spot.
